Classes taken
JAPN 403: Advanced Japanese for Interpretive Communication
JAPN 404: Advanced Japanese for Presentational Communication
Reflective Narrative
4.1
JAPN 403: Advanced Japanese for Interpretive Communication helped to start the first half of a year-long capstone project. I started my literature review research in this class. Thanks to library sit in sessions and getting to know our librarian on closer communication terms, it made researching a topic much easier. I learned how to use the CSUMB library's database to shorten down results, how to request certain books to help support my topic, and how to extract data from what I found.
4.2
After going to the library sessions, JAPN 404: Advanced Japanese for Presentational Communication aided with Capstone to finalize literature review research for the capstone project, receiving feedback for our surveys and other works translated, and also to review important grammar lessons on what language to use for the PowerPoint, script and paper to turn in. We actively performed midterm presentations, in both English and Japanese, to feel more comfortable talking about or research topics. We used the tools we learned from our previous class to continue researching more detail if necessary and to learn how to cite from Japanese sources that we used.
4.3
After doing literature review, I also was able to build questions of what to ask my survey participants. In WLC 400, we used many technology-based resources in order to complete our capstone projects. For example, we used Google Forms to create our surveys, and sent them out through social-networking sites or e-mail. After the data was collected, we then analyzed our results and created a PowerPoint which we would use to present our research and findings. Furthermore, we learned to utilize Excel for making charts and graphs to put on our PowerPoints in order to display our results. Lastly, we used Word to write our final papers in both Japanese and English, and learned how to properly format it in order to create an academic paper., I was able to fulfill MLO 4 of learning how to properly research a topic and analyze the data I collected to present my topic accurately.
