Classes taken:
Japanese B*
JAPN 302: History of Japan
Business English
Reflective Narrative:
1.1
By practicing these everyday conversations with classmates, rehearsing at home, then again with the professors, helped me step out of my comfort zone to be able to speak Japanese more in public. My writing skills were also put to the test as Japanese B was one of the few Japanese classes I’ve had that required everything to be written and handed in. However, I felt I had accomplished a huge goal when taking a practice JLPT 4 test and passing. I was even able to test myself further and pass the listening portion for JLPT 3 as well. This demonstrates how I am leveling at intermediate-high of language.
1.2
I focused on the content of Japn 302: History in Japan as well as some grammar key points to put them into sentences. Even more emphasized was understanding key points in history and discussing this in Japanese. Every lesson, we had questions related directly that can be found only from reading and have questions that applied outside thinking to answer. Every Sunday this was due and to comment on our peer’s answers as well. By having this constant interaction in Japanese, I had build enough confidence to present a final presentation we had in Japanese on a topic relating to what we learned in the class. By having these practice performances, I was able to exhibit my understanding of Japanese pronunciation, listening, and shadowing, noting the differences between English and Japanese.
